Service history: YNSN Webster served aboard the USS Newport News (CA-148) during the ship's second tour to Vietnam. The Newport News, a Des Moines-class heavy cruiser, was launched in March 1948; on Christmas Day 1968 Newport News commenced combat operations and her second tour to Vietnam. Her mission was primarily providing naval gunfire support to the 7th and 9th ARVN in the Vinh Binh Province of the Mekong Delta and additional naval gunfire support near the DMZ - she expended 18,928 rounds of ammunition during this deployment.
