Service history: Specialist 5th Class Kent Snyder served in the Army from January 1969 to December 1970, as a member of the 24th Artillery Detachment, 512th US Army Artillery Group, part of the Special Ammunition Support Command (SASCO). SASCO was responsible for the control, maintenance and security for tactical nuclear weapons deployed in NATO countries. SP5 Snyder was stationed at Ritter Von Leeb Kaserne in Landsberg, West Germany, with an Honest John field rocket unit - the truck mounted MGR-1 Honest John rocket was the first nuclear-capable surface-to-surface missile in the US arsenal. In addition to supporting US Army units, the 24th Artillery Detachment was tasked with supporting the West German Army's 1st Mountain Division.
