Service history: Donald D. Makley enlisted as an Aviation Cadet on 17 August 1942. After completing flight training he was assigned as a Bombadier to the 328th Bomb Squadron, 93rd Bomb Group. The 93rd was known as "Ted's Traveling Circus" and took part in the famous raid on the Romanian oilfields at Ploesti; the Group also flew the most missions of any Group assigned to the Eighth Air Force. On October 12th 1944, Lt Makley's B-24J aircraft "Jukebox Jenny" (tail number 42-50606) was hit in the number 3 engine while on a mission to Osnabruck, Germany and crashed. Lieutenant Makley, along with seven other crewmembers was killed.
