Service history: LeRoy Johnson was the 4th generation of his family born and raised in Montgomery County, Ohio. He enlisted in the Army Air Forces on 24 March 1941 at Ft. Thomas, Kentucky and took his basic training at Ft. Oglethorpe, Georgia. After evaluation, he was described as "flat-footed" and declared medically unable to march, and therefore, unable to serve overseas. He spent time following basic training at Ft. Oglethorpe as an Instrument Repairman until he received orders to report to Nurse Operating Room School in Washington, DC. After graduating from nursing school, he served time at Walter Reed General Hospital. He was reassigned to the 4000th AAF Base Unit at Patterson Field in Dayton, Ohio as a locksmith and was honorably discharged there on 17 November 1945. LeRoy continued his civilian career at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and ultimately became locksmith foreman over Areas A, B and C and Page Manor military housing. He retired as a civilian from the U.S. Air Force - Air Force Logistics Command at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio on 31 May 1971.
