Service history: BM3c Howell enlisted in the Navy in January 1949 and was honorably discharged after one year. He was recalled to active duty for the Korean War in September 1950, serving until September 1952. During this time he served aboard the heavy cruiser USS Los Angeles (CA-135) which was assigned to bombard enemy implacements along the North Korean coastline.
