Veterans Roll of Honor: WALLACE ("WALLY") LEE CHEESMAN

Rank: Corporal

Service history: Corporal Wally Cheesman served with Company B, 247th Combat Engineer Battalion, attached to the XIX Corps and 30th Infantry Division. His unit landed in Normandy on 22 June 1944, and fought through the Battle of the Bulge. They also fought as infantrymen during the initial attacks against the Siegfried Line, and during the Battle of the Bulge were in the Hurtgenwald, preparing roads and bridges for demolition - as well as former German bunkers to keep the enemy from using them in the event they were recaptured. During this time Corporal Cheesman was wounded and received the Purple Heart.
