For heroism in connection with military operations against an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam: Specialist Four Andrews distinguished himself on 2 February 1969 while serving as a Rifleman with Company D, 3d Battalion, 39th Infantry, while taking up a night security position in Dinh Tuong Province. When his unit came under intense hostile fire, Specialist Andrews boldly maneuvered across 50 meters of open terrain and took up an exposed position from which to return fire. During the conflict he braved a hail of enemy rounds to provide cover for his unit while they were being repositioned. Specialist Four Andrews' heroic actions are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 9th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
