Service history: MSgt John F. Vallance served from October 1941 to November 1966. During WWII, MSgt Vallance served with the 40th Troop Carrier Squadron (5th Air Force) and was awarded three Air Medals and the Distinguished Flying Cross. The Distinguished Flying Cross is awarded to any officer or enlisted member of the armed forces who distinguishes themselves by "heroism or extraordinary achievement while participating in an aerial flight, subsequent to November 11, 1918.”
